Hydroponics is a very popular way of growing a huge variety of plants. Rather than the plant expending resources looking for water and nutrients in the soil, nutrient-rich water is passed over the roots themselves. The plant can therefore apply full resources to growing, which is why plants grow so much faster in hydroponics.

The HydroArtPod is the perfect appliance for a beginner as it is fully automated and you can get seedpods as well as PlantNutrients ready mixed from us, so that you do not need to do it yourself.

If you are experienced at growing indoors, or you want to learn and be hands-on, then the Essential version is for you.

If you wanted to take any guesswork (or in fact any work at all!) out of growing, you can simply order the Smart version that comes with app control and notifications.

Nearly any plant can be grown, and if you later decide you would like to grow several different types of plants and have some additional units, you can order more.

See our list of recommended plants for growing in HydroArtPod here.

The HydroArtPod has capacity for 30 plants. This allows for a “rolling stock” of plants in different growth stages.

Once a plant is ready it can be harvested – for most plants this means removing some leaves but leaving the plant intact so it continues to grow.

Depending on the plant type, after some months it’s probably time to remove and replace it. Simply drop in a new SeedPod and a new cycle starts.

After the initial cycle, there will most likely be plants at different growth stages which ensures a regular supply of ready-to-eat plants.

Growing hydroponically is up to 4x faster than growing via traditional soil-based methods. The actual rate of growth depends upon the plant type. Lettuce typically will be ready to eat after about 22 days. Tomatoes will usually start to bear fruit after 8-10 weeks.

The unit can grow nearly any plant in it. While we do not sell herbal plant seeds you can follow our instruction here on how you can make your own seedpod.

A great general guide on plant care can be found in our Knowledge Base. Or through our community on Facebook

You can use our SeedPods and just insert them into the unit or you can get seeds on your own, germinate them outside the unit and only transplant those seeds that sprouted. You will need a grow medium for it to work. We recommend using rockwool.

These plants have longer growing periods and need enough space for adequate root development. They do also like to have a different water mix than your herbs and salads. We suggest therefore that you use bushy tomato plant varieties instead of larger growing ones.

HydroArtPod grows many types of plants but you need to group plants based on what they need. If you wanted to grow different plant types at the same time you may have to operate two systems.

Here is an overview of which plants like each other and can be grown within the same unit.

By taking out the subscription pack, you will receive SeedPods and NuTrioPods each Quarter at a significant discount. Alternatively you can buy them directly from our website.

HydroArtPod’s personal Growing Assistant will do the monitoring for you. Sensors fitted within the device detect water level and nutrient concentration. When one of the approaches minimum level, the app sends a notification to your smartphone.

The app even tells you when your plants should be approaching maturity.

You will probably be unable to resist checking on plants and the device yourself, but you don’t have to.

And it manages this while you are away for up to 2 weeks as well, through a special Vacation mode.

The app will tell you when you need to fill the water tank. You can also use the water float indicator on the device to monitor the overall water level. When that hits the Minimum mark then it’s time to top up the tank.

The water tank lasts for about 2-3 weeks, depending on the plants but you can definitely fill up the tank sooner if necessary.

You can top it up in situ or remove the tank, refill and replace into the device.

You can use your own but we cannot guarantee the plants will grow as well.  But in case you wanted to try, we recommend adding the pH Water Conditioner to your water first.

Mix it in well and leave for 10 minutes, then you can dose in your additives according to the chart depending on which product and WEEK  you are dosing for. You then add our All-in-One nutrient.

Although we have given you the dosage on our chart, it is strongly recommended to add the base nutrient gradually and check the EC with a calibrated EC meter until you reach the desired EC level.

Once you have got to this stage and allowed everything to mix in for another 10 minutes or so, check the pH value of the solution again, you will find you may need to add pH down at the end.

Do not exceed 0.75ml per litre of the water conditioner, as primarily, this is not a pH down. If the desired pH is not met, use pH down to achieve desired pH level.

Do not keep adding water conditioner to lower the pH. A pH level of 6.0 – 6.5 is the ideal range to be in.

Lab results are incredibly useful in hydroponics, as they give us a quantitative view of what’s going on within our crops. Leaf tissue analysis is one of the more accurate ones.

It can give indications about environmental conditions and if they might stop the plant from growing.

The nutrients are made from lab grade minerals and hence have been tested during the various growing stages.

The HydroArtPod has been designed with energy saving in mind. The growlights are low energy and are some of the most efficient LED’s that are available in the market at the moment.

The system has been programmed to turn growlights and water pump on and off automatically, hence generating the right balance of energy consumption on growth.

All of our systems can be left on 24 hours a day 7 days a week, as the auto timers will operate the growlights and water pump for optimal results.

Yes, all of our plastic parts are food grade safe. No chemicals will leach into growing plants. The plastics are also UV stable under artificial lighting and natural lighting.

As an environmental plus, we are using recycled materials where it is feasible to do so.

HydroArtPod has got your back while you’re away. Prior to going, simply hit the Vacation button which helps you get everything ready. The water reservoir and NuTrioPods will keep your plants going for up to 2 weeks. When you come back your plants will be bigger than ever!

Yes you can. You can choose to manage all your HydroArtPods as one, or manage them individually via the app.

Yes indeed! HydroArtPod uses Wifi for connectivity, which means that you can connect it to the rest of your smart home devices. You can also manage it through voice commands via Siri, Alexa or other personal digital assistants.

There are only a small number of components in HydroArtPod that can fail, and these are all specifically designed to be easily replaceable by the user. If a part fails, contact us for a replacement.

No, you can stand the device on its feet if you prefer

The device has a 15L water reservoir that can be easily removed for refilling and cleaning. The device is fully self-contained and does not need to be connected to a water supply.

It costs around $4 per month to operate the device for 18 hours a day. The 100W LED growlights are extremely efficient and use about 54kWh a month. The 35W water pump uses only about 2kWh per month.

The best method is prevention.  Keep the lids closed and all openings sealed as light promotes algae growth.

If you already have algae in the system you can remove it with a brush, or use hydrogen peroxide (3ml of 3% H2O2 per gallon of solution) to remove it.

If there are particles floating in the nutrient solution, be sure to flush the reservoir and growing chamber with ample water, and then start with a new batch of plants with nutrients.

If the problem is severe, make sure you have the algae completely flushed out to avoid the risk of clogging some of the flow lines in the system.

HydroArtPod is designed to be easy and quick to clean. Simply wipe exterior surfaces down with a slightly damp cloth. The water reservoir can be easily removed for cleaning, though the integrated UV sterilizer makes this a very occasional requirement. The interior of the device (ie the growing pipes) do not require cleaning.

Yes the HydroArtPod comes with a 12-month guarantee.
