Plant Care for Genovese Basil Plant Pods

Sprouts in: 4 – 6 days

Harvest in: 5 – 6 weeks

Grows best at: 18°C – 24°C

• Genovese Basil doesn’t like it too hot. It grows best at 64 to 70°F (18 to 21°C). It’s pretty hardy though and is a reliable grower!
• There is no need to thin any of the additional seedlings – let them all grow.
• Make sure you keep your grow lights not more than 10cm away from your plant so it grows dense and bushy. You will see your basil grow too thin if the lights have been too far away.

Harvesting Genovese Basil Plant Pods

• Four weeks after planting you should be able to harvest leaves. Basil leave grow in “nodes”, which are clusters where a few leaves emerge from the stem at the same place. Find the largest leaves on a stem and cut or pinch the stem just above the next node below. This will promote quicker growth of the stem.
• Harvesting frequently will make your basil plant last longer and produce more.
• The leaves will taste best just before the plant begins to flower. Snip off any new flower buds in order to slow down flowering.
